Sub: Upper age limit for direct recruitment to non-gazetted posts on the Railways.

In terms of Board’s letter of even number dated 10/5/1999 (RBE No. 99/1999), an across the board relaxation of three years above the prescribed upper age limit in open market recruitment to all non-gazetted posts including engagement of Substitutes on the railways has been provided. The currency of this relaxation contained in letter of even number dated 10.5.1999 (RBE No. 99/1999) has been extended from time to time and was available up to 03.2.2015 in terms of RBE No. 57/2012. The matter has further been reviewed and it has now been decided by this Ministry to provide relaxation in the following manner above the prescribed upper age limit for recruitment to all non-gazetted posts including engagement of Substitutes:- SI.  Relaxation on upper age limit for direct recruitment to Group C & D posts on the Railways

Subject:  Upper age limit for direct recruitment to Group ‘C’ & `D’ posts on the Railways

Ref :  Board’s letter of even number dated 18.2.2011 (RBE No. 24/2011)

Attention is invited to this Ministry’s letter under reference vide which thecurrency of the relaxation contained in letter of even number dated 10.5.1999 (RBE No.99/1999) was extended for a period of one year i.e. up to 3.2.2011.

The matter has been reviewed and it has now been decided that this relaxation of 03 (three) years above the prescribed upper age limit for recruitment to all Group ‘C’posts and posts in Pay Band-1 (Grade Pay: 21800) including engagement of Substitutes may be extended further for a period of three years i.e. up to 03.02.2015. These orders take effect from 4.2.2012. Indents placed after 3.2.2012 may be suitably amended.

Attention is invited to Board’s letter of even number dated 01.01.1998 read with letters of even number dated 15.07.1994, dated 04.08.1995 and dated 12.09.1997 raising the upper age limit by 5 years for notifications to be issued for direct recruitment to all Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories, including engagement of Casual Labour (since discontinued) and Substitutes on the Railways for a period up to 03.08.2000.

  1. The matter has further been reviewed by the Board pursuant to revision of upper age limit for direct recruitment to Central Civil Services and Civil Posts as notified under Department of Personnel and Training’s Notification Number 15012/6/98-Estt (D) dated 21.12.1998.

2.1. It has now been decided that the prescribed age limits for recruitment to all Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories including engagement of Substitutes as specified under the relevant orders of the Board, may be raised by two years on a regular basis w.e.f 01.06.1999. The present age relaxation of 5 years as admissible in terms of Board’s letter dated 01.01.1998 mentioned in para 1 above, which is available up to 03.08.2000 will, also simultaneously, stand reduced to 3 years, w.e.f. 01.06.1999.

Attention is invited to Board’s letter of even number Dated 04.08.1995, raising the upper age limit for direct recruitment in all Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories including casual labour (since discontinued) and Substitutes on the Railways to be notified during the next two years w.e.f. 04.08.1995, by 5 years above the age limit as existed prior to the issue of Board’s letter of even number Dated 15.07.1994 under which upper age limit had been raised by 3 years.

1.1 Attention is also invited to Board’s letter of even number Dated 12.09.1997 indicating that it has been decided not to extend the currency of the relaxation in upper age limit contained in Board’s letter of even number Dated 04.08.1995 beyond 04.08.1997.

  1. The matter has been reviewed by the Board and it has been decided that the currency of the relaxation contained in Board’s letter of even number Dated 04.08.1995 may be extended further for a period of 3 years i.e. upto 03.08.2000.

2.1 The Board have also decided that while recruitments finalised in the intervening period may not be re-opened, in the cases where the closing dates of the notifications are not yet over or the closing dates are over but the written examination and/or interview have not yet been fixed/held, the closing dates may be suitably extended providing for the relaxed upper age limits in terms of these instructions.

The Ministry of Railways have decided that the upper age limit for direct recruit to all Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ categories including engagement of casual labour / substitutes on the Railways, to be notified during the next two years with effect from date of issue of this letter, should be set at 2 (two) years above that presently specified.

 Subject: Raising of upper age limit for direct recruitment to Group ‘ Group ‘D’ categories on the Railways.

Attention is invited to Board’s letter of even number dated 15.07.1994 on the above subject wherein it was laid down that the upper age limit for direct recruitment to Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ categories including engagement of labour and substitute on the Railways should be set at two years above the then existing limits.

  1. The Ministry of Railways (Railways Board) have now decided that in suppression of the Board’s letter dated 15.07.1994 cited above, the upper age limit for direct recruitment in all Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ categories including engagement of casual labour and substitutes on the Railways, to be notified during the next two years with effect from the date of issue of this letter, should at 5 (five) years above the limits that existed prior to the issue of the Board’s letter dated 15.07.1994 cited above.

Attention is invited to Board’s letter of even No. dated 15.07.1994 and dated 04.08.1995 copies enclosed herewith.

It was laid in Board’s letter dated 04.08.1995 that the upper age limit for direct recruitment in all Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ categories including engagement of casual labour and substitutes on the Railways to be notified during the next 2 years w.e.f. 04.08.1995 should be set at 5 years above the upper age limits that existed prior to the issue of Board’s letter dated 15.07.1994.

The matter regarding extension of the currency of the relaxation of upper age limit for direct recruitment contained in Board’s letter dated 04.08.1995 has been considered by the Board and it has been decided not to extend the currency of the same beyond 04.08.1997. Accordingly the upper age limit for direct recruitment to Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ categories from 05.08.1997 onwards, will be that existed prior to the issue of Board’s letter dated 15.07.1994 referred to earlier. The revisions of the upper age limits after that those contained in Board’s letters dated 15.07.1994 and dated 04.08.1995, if any, will, however, continue to apply.
